The Secure an Advanced Vision for Education Fund, or SAVE, is a state-wide one-cent sales tax for schools that provides funding to support infrastructure and technology needs.
The SAVE fund has funded many projects in the school district including:
The purchase of student laptops and devices - every student in the district from kindergarten up has their own technology device for school use.
Construction projects such as the addition of High School auditorium and the replacement of Middle School gym bleachers.
New playround equipment.
Classroom furniture.
Security upgrades at all buildings.
Supporting the new softball field irrigation system, the baseball field warning track and the crowning of the football field and installation of the irrigation system.
Roof repairs, tuckpointing, parking lot repairs, HVAC systems and transportation fleet rotations.
During the election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, voters will be asked to approve the Central Springs Community School District’s Revenue Purpose Statement.
A yes vote will allow the district to continue to use funds made available through the Iowa Legislature’s 2019 extension of the Secure an Advanced Vision for Education (SAVE), more commonly known as the One-Cent Sales Tax.
This is not a new tax or current tax increase. SAVE funds are used in long-range planning to build and renovate schools, address major repairs, install technology and make principal and interest payments for school infrastructure. If district’s want to continue to use these funds beyond the current 1/1/2031 sunset of the current SAVE fund, the Revenue Purpose Statement must be updated to align with the 2019 legislative changes and approved via a vote of the public by a simple majority.
No, this is not a new tax or current tax increase. The Iowa Legislature approved the sales tax to go through 2051. This is not a property tax but a sales tax paid at the time of purchase; therefore, you will pay this tax whether the Revenue Purpose Statement is re-approved. Re-approval of the Revenue Purpose Statement dictates how revenues may be spent and allows districts to prioritize expenditures on facilities and technology.
